The difference between setting intentions versus setting goals:

Welcome back to blog post number 2!!! In this post, we will be discussing the differences between setting goals and intentions. There are a lot of misconceptions about goals and intentions. A goal is something that you wish to achieve and take steps towards achieving. Whereas, intentions are something you set for yourself in the present moment. There is a lot more pressure on setting goals because they are something that you hope to achieve and more often then not we set goals that are out of reach which in turn sets us up for failure.

There are two different types of goals: short and long-term goals. Short-term goals are designed to be completed within a short period of time and are more tangible. These goals never last longer than six months. Most of the time short-term goals last a few days, weeks, or months. Long-term goals, on the other hand, can take up to six months or longer to complete and take longer to achieve.

“Set small goals for yourself and make sure you hit them. Pretty soon all those small goals will have snowballed into something big”.

Intention setting: When I set an intention for myself I am not setting myself up for failure or having high expectations for myself. Setting intentions helps me to stay grounded and in the moment versus thinking about the future.

Examples of short-term goals, long-term goals, and intentions:

Short-term goal: go to 3-5 workout classes a week

Long-term goal: Set a new PR for the Chicago Marathon!

Intention: Practice mindful listening

I hope this post helps you to set intentions and goals for yourself! Stay tuned for blog post #3:) Topic is TBD!
